On October 8–9, 2024, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb (UNIZG-FER) hosted DroneDays 2024 at the SEECEL building in Zagreb. The two-day international event brought together more than 300 experts, researchers, engineers, and industry leaders to explore the latest developments in aerial robotics.
The program featured a rich mix of keynote lectures, technical talks, panel discussions, and a lively business fair. Speakers from academia, industry, and public services—including Dario Lešić (DJI Enterprise), Vedran Damjanović (GIS expert), Josef Navrátil (University of Pilsen), Petar Kecman (firefighting systems), Margarita Mulero Pazmany (wildlife research), and Joachim Edel (safety-critical domains)—shared insights on drones in conservation, education, emergency response, and industry applications. Panel sessions highlighted the integration of UAVs into public safety and the challenges of building sustainable businesses in the drone sector.
AeroSTREAM was strongly represented at the event. Prof. Abeje Mersha (Saxion University) delivered a lecture on innovation and practical learning in mechatronics, while the consortium hosted a dedicated project stand, showcasing AeroSTREAM’s vision and ongoing activities. In addition, specialized research training sessions were organized for master’s and PhD students, including a session on multi-target localization by FlyRoS and another on ultra-wideband localization, providing advanced hands-on learning opportunities in aerial robotics.
DroneDays 2024 proved to be more than just a conference—it was a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and networking across disciplines. With its mix of expert talks, interactive sessions, and training opportunities, the event reinforced Zagreb’s position as a regional hub for aerial robotics innovation and offered valuable insights into the future trajectory of drone technologies.
