AeroStream project was selected for the WIDERA Feedback to Policy Workshop

As an example of a successful project, AeroStream was selected for the WIDERA Feedback to Policy Workshop , which took place in Brussels on October 2, 2025.  During the workshop, Prof. Tamara Petrović had the unique opportunity to present AeroStream project outcomes directly to national policymakers (WIDERA Programme Committee, ERA Forum, and Research Working Party), National Contact Points (NCPs), and the European Commission (Directorate-General for Research and Innovation and the REA). The workshop fostered community building, knowledge sharing, and helped shape future WIDERA policy.

Bounding Box 2025 Workshop supported by AeroSTREAM held in Osijek

On June 13, 2025 , Osijek became the hub of innovation with Bounding Box 2025 , a deep-tech conference organized by Protostar Labs  with  AeroSTREAM project support . The event attracted more than 160 participants from across Europe , uniting entrepreneurs, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss the latest developments in artificial intelligence, robotics, education, space technologies, and startup ecosystems, while highlighting Croatia’s growing role in the global deep-tech landscape. The diverse lineup of speakers included Deni Nurkić (Nuqleus) , Aleksandar Raić (Pontis Technology) , Matija Kopić (Gideon) , Srđan Kovačević (Orqa) , Izet Ždralović (Silicon Gardens) , Marin Trošelj (STEMI) , Petar Piljek & Denis Kotarski (UNIZG-FSB) , Stjepan Bogdan (FER) , and many others. Through keynote talks, fireside chats, and technical presentations, they shared insights on building startups, advancing AI and robotics research, and exploring the opportunities of emerging technologies. Beyond the stage, eight exhibition stands offered attendees hands-on exposure to new products and innovations, while networking sessions and informal discussions encouraged collaboration across sectors. A recurring theme throughout the day was the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation, continuous learning, and adaptability in the face of rapid technological change. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the interactive sessions and networking opportunities. Suggestions for the future included adding more practical workshops, extended Q&A sessions, and stronger regional representation—clear indicators that Bounding Box is set to become a cornerstone event for Croatia’s deep-tech community.

Invited lecture on Croatian Robotics Conference (CRC 2025)

On May 15th, Robert Milijaš delivered an invited lecture on the Croatian Robotics Conference in Čakovec, Croatia. The lecture was titled “Datasets for LIDAR SLAM parameter sensitivity analysis on aerial vehicles” (in croatian “Skupovi podataka za analizu osjetljivosti parametara LiDAR SLAM algoritama na letjelicama”) and presented Robert’s work supported by the AeroSTREAM project. Milijaš provided technical insights into fieldwork on recording UAV-based SLAM datasets, and gave an overview of available aerial SLAM datasets which he encountered during his research.

ICUAS 2025 UAV Competition

The ICUAS 2025 UAV Competition is currently in full swing in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, as part of the International Conference on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (ICUAS), taking place from May 14–17, 2025. Now in its fourth edition, the competition brings together top university teams from around the world to test their aerial robotics solutions in a demanding, communication-constrained scenario. Teams are deploying swarms of Bitcraze Crazyflies in a mock indoor urban environment to autonomously locate targets, maintain continuous connectivity with a central base station, and manage battery usage through coordinated recharging. This year, the competition attracted 26 teams from 15 countries. Following a proof-of-concept submission round, 15 teams advanced to the simulation phase. The competition is organized by the LARICS laboratory at the University of Zagreb, which developed the simulation environment and scoring system. The LARICS team — Frano Petric , Marijana Peti , and Marko Kozlik — is currently on-site in Charlotte, supporting the execution of the live finals. Khawaja Ghulam Alamdar also made a key contribution during the simulation phase, helping to set up the virtual environment and prepare technical documentation. While FER’s UAV Competition team focused on the simulation and judging process, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, led by Artur Wolek, was responsible for preparing the physical competition arena at the conference venue. 🏆 Finalist Teams Competing in Charlotte: AIRo Lab – The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (China) CSIE – Center for Scientific Innovation and Education (Armenia) Aerial Robotics IITK – Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (India) AGH AVADER – AGH University of Krakow (Poland) KNU ARRF – Kyungpook National University (South Korea) The competition is proudly supported by Platinum Sponsors: Bitcraze – providing Crazyflie drones and the Loco Positioning System NaturalPoint – enabling precise tracking with the OptiTrack motion capture system Congratulations to all the finalists — and good luck to everyone competing this week in Charlotte! 📎 More info: ICUAS 2025 UAV Competition 📎 Conference site: ICUAS 2025
